8. Prata is not curry!

    Amazing content to watch

  10. Lontong is traditional Malay food. But there are Chinese stalls selling their versions of Lontong. That's why you see Fish Cake at this stall, something not commonly use in Malay food. The colourful ice you had is called Ice Kacang (pronounced Ka Chang). The red syrup should be rose syrup. The chewy translucent thing is palm seed. Next time you should try the Sugar Cane Juice. 🙂

Too bad if you guys want to try the food try it with enthusiasm, i can see you guys can try stuffs but not eager enough to eat it! 😔😳🙄😶

  12. Thumb up for being a vegetarian, maybe next time you would like to try vegetarian mee Hoon, , is tasty with lots of veg things

  13. Lontong is compressed rice cake in a coconut tumeric gravy with cabbage/carrot/longbeans – often with fish. The Ice Kacang (shaved ice) should be eaten mixed up or a spoonful of everything. Most Asian foods are meant to be eaten a spoonful of everything possible, not each ingredient separately. The translucent fruit was an Attap Seed – a palm fruit. The Roti (bread) Prata is also called Canai in Malaysia – it is oily because it is a flaky bread (roti), like puff pastry. Most often it is eaten with lentil (dhal) curry, or fish/chicken flavoured curries. The non-oily/flaky version is a Chapati. Easier to go vegetarian with Indian food than others. Chinese vegetarian is difficult to find.

  14. アーチボルドピーター

The white thing in the ice kacang was attap chee. The best part 😜

  15. What's wrong with durians?

Hi guys, if you are looking for vegetarian or vegan food in Singapore, you got to know where to go. Hawker centres aren't the place to go because there's usually only 1 or 2 token vegetarian stalls. And they tend to be low quality, usually with mock meat made from gluten or carb-heavy, which isn't quality greens.
If you are willing to spend a bit more (about S$10 per meal), the options get A LOT better! I would recommend 4 vegetarian/vegan chains which are known for quality food at reasonable prices:

    1. Greendot (chinese style, 12 outlets in easily accessible malls) http://www.greendot.sg/contact-us-outlets/
    2. Real Food (western style, 4 outlets) http://www.realfoodgrocer.com/
    3. VeganBurg (fastfood style, think mushroom patty, 1 outlet near Eunos MRT) http://www.veganburg.com/
    4. Elemen (5-course fine dining at about S$30/pax, superb quality, 4 outlets) http://www.elemen.com.sg/restaurant-info

The largest concentration of vegetarian/vegan food options are at Fortune Centre (because of a Guan Yin Temple nearby). There are options from small stalls to full fledged restaurants. (I love Herbivore restaurant on the ground floor!)

Look up the food bible for vegetarians/vegans: Happy Cow website. Extensive listings complete with diner reviews. Do bookmark it! http://www.happycow.net/

Actually, eating in town isn't as expensive as you think. Many of these chains cost the same whether it is a town location or outside of town. Try the malls next time… a lot more options to choose from!

  19. Great video, but as a Singaporean I feel bad because actually in hawkers, there should be a variety of vegetarian food available. Especially for Indian shops, to my knowledge, many Indians in Singapore are vegetarian. As for chinese, it's part of most Chinese religion to eat vegetarian.. Show them "素" word and they will understand. To also clarify, actually Hawker prices are more or less standardised. Because it's somewhat regulated the rentals are competitive and hence prices of Hawker food is somewhat similar despite it being in the cbd city area or in the "outskirts". If u do happen to drop by sg again I can recommend u some good vegetarian food tho, at least to a Chinese Singaporean tastebud 😂
